Why two nights in Essaouira rather than one? One night means arriving in the afternoon, sleeping, and leaving the next morning — you see the ramparts and eat at the port, but you don’t truly experience the city. Two nights gives you a full free day: the beach in the morning, the art galleries in the afternoon, a Gnawa music evening, and time to feel the Atlantic rhythm of the place. Essaouira rewards the extra night more than almost anywhere else on this route.
What is the Portuguese Cistern at El Jadida? A 16th-century vaulted underground cistern built by the Portuguese inside their fortified city of Mazagan. The shallow water on its floor reflects the Gothic vaulted ceiling in a striking architectural image. It takes about 20 minutes to visit and is included as a brief stop on the coastal drive back to Casablanca on Day 14, time permitting.
How does this 14-day tour differ from a shorter version? This itinerary follows a complete circuit through Day 11 (Marrakech city tour). Days 12 and 13 add two full nights in Essaouira, and Day 14 drives north along the Atlantic coast back to Casablanca, with an optional stop at El Jadida.
Is Essaouira windy? Yes — Essaouira is one of the windiest cities in Morocco, which is why it’s the world capital of windsurfing and kitesurfing. The trade wind (the alizé) blows consistently from the north. The medina and ramparts are sheltered, but the beach is exposed. In summer, the wind provides natural air conditioning that keeps Essaouira comfortable when the rest of the country is sweltering; in winter it can be cold and strong.
Can this tour be customized further? Yes.
